Apartments Student Inspector

JOB TITLE: Apartments Student Inspector     

FLSA: Non-exempt                       

SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position will begin immediately. The purpose of this position is to provide customer service and administrative support for one or more University Housing front desk locations and to assist with facility escorts & inspections, as well as other facility-related items. Confidentiality, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are required. This position will work 20 hours/week.

SUPERVISION

The Housing Operations Coordinator provides general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide excellent customer service; be the first point of contact for one or more University Housing front desk locations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with maintenance staff to escort vendors, perform room and health & safety inspections and confirm make-ready status, and other facility-related items.
  • Assist professional staff with the orderly operations of the front desk.
  • Receive, log, and distribute all mail and packages.
  • Monitor the main phone line activity by answering incoming phone calls, providing information and answers to questions, and transferring calls to appropriate people and departments.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues, safety problems, and emergency situations.
  • Assist with administrative tasks.
  • Cover the desk during its posted business hours. Shifts are available between 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Sunday. Exact shifts and working hours will be determined in coordination with supervisor.
  • Assist with move-in and move-out operations.
  • Assist with building tours and inspections.
  • Assist with some general grounds-keeping and trash pick up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a current degree-pursuing UT Dallas student in good standing with the University. Must be able to follow instructions, maintain confidentiality, communicate well, have attention to detail, and be timely & dependable. Must pass a criminal background check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Requires the ability to interpret instructions in writing or orally. Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Requires the ability to perform skilled coordinated movements, such as lifting heavy packages, opening mail kiosks, and operating a computer terminal, printers, fax machine, scanner and various office equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, students, and visitors with respect.
  • Interest in working in a facilities environment
