GIS Specialist

The Digital Studies of the Holocaust project through the Ackerman Center at UT Dallas is seeking a part-time student worker who specializes in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assist the team in the production of interactive web-based maps. The role will work in direct collaboration with other project team members and provide support in continuing ongoing projects. The Digital Studies of the Holocaust project aims to introduce new ways of seeing and remembering the Holocaust by bringing big data science, GIS mapping techniques, and digital humanities practices to the study of the Holocaust. Candidates will create web-based maps using data related to victims of the Third Reich. Proficiency in the following skills is required for this position: map production and visualization (design and create interactive web maps, customize map layouts, symbology, and labeling to convey spatial information effectively), developing interactive mapping applications for web, and mobile platforms, geodatabase development (establish data editing workflows and versioning strategies to facilitate collaborative editing and data sharing), and the ability to utilize GIS software platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS, Google Maps, and Open Source GIS tools to perform spatial analysis and mapping tasks.

Candidates must be team-oriented. The student can expect to work 16-18 hours/week. The ideal candidate should be open to continuing with the project for multiple semesters.
