Student Assistant in Computational Astrophysics

Position Overview:

The Computational Astrophysics Research Group at UT Dallas, led by Prof. Aaron Smith, is seeking motivated undergraduate student assistants. This role involves contributing to computational galaxy formation research, focusing on radiation transport and fluid dynamics algorithm development.

 

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist in the development and optimization of computational algorithms for astrophysical simulations.

* Engage in software engineering tasks primarily using Python and C++.

* Contribute to ongoing projects on galaxy formation and cosmic reionization (see www.thesan-project.com) and radiative transfer modeling (see colt.readthedocs.io).

 

Qualifications:

* Proficiency in Python and/or C++.

* Strong mathematical skills and the ability to make independent decisions.

Undergraduates with a strong computational background and astrophysical interests, irrespective of major.
